June 2023 Trip
WOW this was such a wonderful week and a half in Guatemala! We had a group of 19 people and everyone was so fun and willing to work hard and it made the experience so great.
Here is a list of the things we were able to accomplish this time:
Cleared out the two school classrooms of any clutter, trash, and old, damaged desks.
Scraped off old paint
Disassembled the old desks for recycling
Fixed the bathroom flushing system
Installed bathroom curtains
Painted the two school classrooms
Painted the outside of the school building
Reassembled the classrooms with the remaining functional desks
Taught a health class on first aid and hygiene
Gave first aid kits to families in the village
Provided two new tables for the school to use for lunch
Had a nurse available for any medical questions
Strengthened relationships with the community
Included the community in our work projects
Played fútbol with our friends to strengthen connections
It was really such a beautiful trip! What made it even better was the fact that we had so much community involvement this time around! During our health class we had 17 adults (16 of those mothers) attend and when we invited parents to come help us paint, we had around 8-10 come! We’ve only ever had one or two parents with us when we work, so this was really exciting! We can see the community accepting us and trusting us and we take that honor very seriously. ❤️ oh how we love our Guatemalan friends!
