June 2022 Trip

Projected Goals: Run electricity into the main school classrooms, get water flowing to the toilets, share Spanish/English flashcards with the school children, deliver books, deliver donated dental supplies.

Money raised: $538 from venmo + $100 in cash

Wow- this trip was such an amazing time! We had a good sized group this time around, 14 people- 7 of them kids and teens! We used a charter bus company to drive us to the Maya Jade resort and it was a really nice, stress free way to get there with all of our baggage and groceries.

Our first day there we spent reuniting with old friends, swimming and getting settled into our rooms. The next day we headed to the school to see how things were looking and if we needed to change our project plans around. Turns out some parts of the water pump we installed back in January had been recently stolen, so getting a new pump in so the school still had access to water became our first priority.

Once we put in a new pump, we wanted to protect it from future theft and damage, so we spent the rest of the project days building a pump shed around it! Our local friend Cristian helped us tremendously since he does this type of work for a living. We are so grateful for him! We were also able to get electricity into the school rooms, as well as finish grouting some tile we put up in January in the school’s kitchen. The kids and teens did a great job going through the English/spanish flashcards with the school kids and the book and dental supply delivery went great as well! So grateful to those who donated those items and money for this trip- it makes all the difference in our ability to help our friends with sustainable abundance. :)

On top of the work we got done, we also had a ton of fun! We played a lot of soccer, made sand creations, swam in the ocean, (it’s SO warm!!) had a Piñata to celebrate some AWB birthdays, had some fun treats and made so many sweet connections with our friends there! Oh how we love Guatemala! Can’t wait for our next trip.

Completed Projects: Electricity to the school class rooms, grout in the kitchen tile, and a new water pump with a shed to protect it from future tampering, and gave the Spanish/English flash cards to the school and did them together. Calling that a rousing success! :)
